Day 10 ~ Halifax

Wednesday, September 16th,

Our hotel was located at the base of the Citadel so we headed there right away to beat the crowds. It was a beautiful sunny day so the views were wonderful.
The famous Clock Tower of Halifax. Obsessed with punctuality, the Commander-in-Chief of the British military made a parting gift to Halifax: a town clock on the hill overlooking Brunswick Street. ... The Old Town Clock, as it is now known, was installed in October 1803 and has watched over Halifax for more than 200years.

The Royal guards of the Citadel~

The Citadel compound ~

Reenactment of the time ~

The Old Town Clock overlooking the harbor.

John found a toy!

The barracks

We continued on to the harbor, Tim Hortons everywhere

and Theodore Tug Boat welcoming you to the harbor. He will take you on a harbor tour if interested. Unfortunately, Theodore was finished for the season.

The busy Boardwalk ~

The we went to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic ~

We found it very interesting .

Learning that Halifax was the first responder to the Titanic disaster was very interesting and moving. The systems used to recover and record the dead (numbering victims and possessions) were innovative for the time and are still used today for similar disasters.

Continuing along the pier we had to try the famous Cows ice cream we had read so much about. The ice cream was delicious but just as famous are their t-shirts. Sporting spoofs on many socially current tv shows, movies etc, they are very funny and very popular.

Enjoying this gorgeous day we continued along the pier ~

and stopped for a cool one at ~

We ended up with a sampler ~ (Lynn had one, John four)

We decided to go back to the hotel for a while before dinner ~ bad decision. We liked the fact that the hotel was at the base of the Citadel and enjoyed walking downhill to the harbor however when it was time to return ~ it was all uphill ~ a steep hill. Oh well, good exercise.

We ventured back to the harbor for dinner and upon recommendation from people we met we tried the Gahan House.

GREAT burger!

Beautiful view ~

Great day!
