Day 7 ~ Digby

Sunday, September 13th

There is an interesting phenomenon that occurs in the areas around the Bay of Fundy. Because the tides of the Bay of Fundy are so extreme they actually push back other waters. When the St John River meets with the Bay in St John, NB, it causes quite a stir. At the viewing point called the Reversing Falls you can watch the tide come in the bay and actually push the river back up stream changing the flow.

Tide slowly coming in ~

We had to wait a few hours for the full effect so we went to have a look around St John. We really liked the "Old Town" area.

Kings Square Park was lovely with beautiful flowers in typical Canadian style.

These are the famous "people" of St John. John Hooper,an English-born Canadian sculptor known for his colourful polychromed wood carvings created several scenes here in St John. All of his creations here have to do with people and time. His works can be found on public display in many locations throughout Canada and worldwide. It was fun to watch people's reactions when they spotted them and their interactions with the figures.

About 12:30 we returned to the Reversing Falls to see how things were progressing.

Looking back at the pictures from earlier this morning we can see the change. The tide is really pushing back at the river.

Really interesting were these fishing boats ~ just outside the current ~ the water was calm and the boats never moved.

We had to catch the 2:30 ferry to Digby, Nova Scotia so we headed over to the dock. This was a huge new boat that reminded us of our short lived fast ferry in Rochester. This is also a fast ferry and has shortened this trip from three hours to two and a half.

We drove over the ramp ~

into the belly ~

Everyone exited their vehicles and proceeded to the upper deck. It was really nice with two movie areas, a business area, three restaurant/snack areas and a lounge.

As we headed to our B&B in Digby, concern started to mount as we drove along the desolate road. But not to worry. As we entered the drive, ahead we saw the exact "home" we saw on line.
The Cliffside B&B was everything it was touted to be.

Cliffside it was ~

The view was spectacular!

We drove out to the lighthouse ~

and then to town for dinner. Digby is famous for scallops so we had to have scallops. They were really delicious ~ even Lynn had them.
