Being only a three or four week trip John didn't think we'd have much to pack ~ Lynn took care of that!
We managed to leave on schedule, at 7:00am and arrived in Lake George Village around 11:00. We were told it would be busy but we weren't quite prepared for how busy. Of course it was a holiday weekend but we're sure it is always like this during the summer season. It is very touristy and commercial. After finally finding a place to park we did manage to find peaceful Shepard Park with a shady amphitheater and lawn area.
The flowers were beautiful!
We walked around town and then continued heading north to Bolton Landing. Bolton Landing is a quainter version of Lake George Village ~ less busy but still very active. We found a restaurant on the water that catered to some serious boating patrons. We enjoyed watching boats of all shapes and sizes maneuvering in and out of the docks, including this beauty:
It was a beautiful day. We took our first "selfie" and held our breath hoping the camera wouldn't fall off the dock post we balanced it on!
We continued along Lake George passing through Ticonderoga.
Break time at the LaChute Riverwalk. A lovely little park with a waterfall and
our first covered bridge ~ Covered bridges are plentiful in New England so we plan on finding a few.
Rather than drive around ~ we took the first ferry of our trip ~ across Lake Champlain. There was already a line when we arrived.
The ferry approached ~ unloaded and re-loaded
The ferry station waiting for us ~
view down the lake. Starting on a beautiful day!
Welcome to Vermont! We entered Vermont in real cow country!
Then we came across our second covered bridge.
still fully functional ~ wooden deck and all.
We were getting tired and almost to our destination when we passed over a bridge and we both said "what was that?" We turned around, parked and went for a look. The Quechee Gorge ~ never heard of it! We just love it when this happens! Lining both sides of the road, the gorge was beautiful.
Continuing on to the Hampton Inn, White River Junction for the night.
